2008 Is Coming to a End

The year of 2008 is coming to an end very quickly. I am not sure about everyone else, but this year flew by for me. There is only about three days left of this year. With that in mind I am going to take some time to reminess on some of the things that have happened this year, please forgive me if I have forgotten some things.

The first of the year began with me getting on an airplane and flying half way around the world, to Germany, with Maren's parents to pick Maren up from her year stay as a nanny. We did the european turist thing for about ten days or so before we got on the plane to head on home. That was the longest flight ever, well it seemed like it. Three airplanes and airports later we had finally arrived back in Salt Lake City. To our suprise we had missed the big storms, I was okay with that. I am not sure about Maren though, I think she missed the snow in Germany.

Throughout this year we have had a lot of missionaries come home, sorry there are way to many of you for me to name, basically everyone our age came home at sometime this year. There have been several weddings too. Hilary Nenow got married in April, Leah Welch got married in June, and Dan Yates tied the knot in September.

We have had all kinds of other thinks go on during the 2008 year. Some of them consist in Sam Johnson buying a house with Freddy, Lauren Tye did a study abroad in London England for a semseter. Kylee Ford arrived back from her stent in China. We have also had some suprises, I think. They were good suprises too, well I would have to say that one of them was way suprising. Amanda Gibson put in her missionary papers and was called to the Bucharest, Romania mission. Wow what a place to go. Now for the suprising one to me and I think to some others would be Maren McLaughlin decided that she was going to go on a mission. She had said when she came back from Germany that she would not go on a mission, but low and behold she has put in her papers. I would have to say that it was the quickest ever though. It took her some time to decide, but once she made up her mind it was only about six weeks after she decided that she was able to finish all the paper work and the other necessary things. Now all we have to do is wait to see where she gets called to.

There is probably a lot that I have missed and I am sorry if I did. I hope to everyone that this year ends wonderfully and that the 2009 year brings them happiness, joy, and lots more.

4th of July

So I'm thinking we should do a party on the 4th of July. I sort of have a tradition going of doing it at my house (although I missed the year I was in Germany) so that's always open. We have Tanner Park which is always an option, lots of grass at the elementary school across the street, or plenty of room at my house. Of course we will have fireworks, so long as their legal. If not, sparklers maybe? Just not cops please, that's not so fun. Let me know what you all think.

I'm around here somewhere..

hm, so I finished the semester in tact, which wasn't as big a miracle as I thought it'd be a few weeks before finals. I'm still working towards a degree in ASL interpreting, which is fun. I keep getting set backs in my progression but hopefully I'll figure out a way around them...
And to add to my set backs I'm planning on serving a mission, for which I'm putting my availability towards the end of summer.
"Are you trying to avoid Matt?" many people ask (either internally or out). My answer is no. I just wanted more of a chance to visit with friends, play a little bit, and most importantly save up more money for to pay for it.
Speaking of money, I have a different sort of job now.. I demonstrate knives. I'm trying to decide right now if I want to make it my full-time job or a side job this summer. If you have any suggestions/advice, I'd love to hear it!

BBQ Bailout

Ok alright, so I know the bailing on the bbq was my fault, but Mary, my sister is getting married May 27th, my Mom has basically claimed my life, so a BBQ seemed ok to push back and the place we wanted to do it was booked, sad but true. So, I'm not against having a BBQ in May, I think it would be great, cause everyone leaves June for all of their summer events, however, I can't be in charge of it, I've already been in charge of way to many things at way too stressful times. So I'm passing the baton, or I could even share it, any takers? We could do it on a weeknight mwf or a saturday afternoon, but this Saturday is all booked, the 17th is fairly busy, the 24th I could sneak it in, but I wouldn't be able to plan it, the 31 is ok too. Memorial day is out, being that Mary gets married the next day and my life is claimed which is ok, because I'm free after the 27th.

Lauren is in town the 24-31 I think, Caitlin leaves in June sometime, Greg goes back to Virginia in June, Amanda has a Birthday somewhere around there, and I don't want her to feel that the BBQ overrides her...so yeah pushing it back sucks.

Also, you have to have at least 10 ppl for sure show up for a good game of Ulitmate Frisbee, 7 just wasn't enough.

So with all of this in mind, we can do a BBQ/ Ultimate Frisbee event, but I don't want to plan the whole thing, I can't.

Waitin

So.... Its official all the papers went through we just have one or two more things to do and then we wait.. I hate waiting and i hate packing. It sucks because i cant really pack anything yet. Mainly because we dont have boxes but i use everything i own on a day to day basis. Like all i own are my clothes and some books and LOTS of movies but pretty sure i dont wanna pack all that up like 3 weeks before i move. I move in 3 weeks wow that is less than a month away oh gol i'm so nervous!

Anyways the rest of my life goes as follows... Pretty much I hate the people i work with except for my grnadpa of course, but they are all liers and cheats its really sad. But hopefully my grandpa will sell his practice soon and then i wont have to deal with them. I really want to work for Cari this summer, but i have heard rumors about her possibly not doing fruit stands this year? Does anyone know anything?? That would be sad if she didn't do it. I would cry. :'(

Also another question are we doing a bbq thinger ever? I think the date and time has been changed a thousand times now! Its sad but yeah i really think we should do it sooonnnn... But yeah that is all right now i guess.

London Baby!

Well, more specifically Cambridge. Less than two months and I will be headed to the country of fog, tea and bad oral hygeine. What's this? You say you didn't know I was going to England? Well shame on me for keeping you out of the loop. Here's the scooby:

I am going to Cambridge for a study abroad program. I leave June 28 and get back Aug 10. (when I say get back I mean get back to Cali. Which is where i am living. In case you didn't know that either.) While in England I will be studying creative writing, spending a weekend in York, London, and Paris, and I will also try to post pictures and keep current on my blog (http://latye.blogspot.com/) as well as a post or two on this page. But we'll see how well that goes. For the most part I am really excited!!!!!!! But I am kinda nervous too, I've never been so far away alone before. Any advice from you world travelers?

Also, before I go I will be back in Utah for a week (May 24-May 31) So hopefully I'll see some of you before I go all international. Cheerio for now mates!

Here I am.

Hi everyone. So I have been back from the mission in Tennessee for several months now so I thought I would update everyone on what is going on. I am going to Utah State. High up in the mountains in Logan. I am studying as a Political Science Major and minoring in Theater Performance. I also helped start a school improv troupe up here this semester (the picture is of me and some amigos after playing bucket of death with chocolate syrup at our show). So thats what I am doing up here. Finals are this week so I am done for a bit. There is only a month of rest, however. Next month I am going to be an EFY counselor through June, July and a lil bit of August.

I also have a blog for my rants and whatever the heck I wanna write about The Steady Incline. So come and see. It is rocks!

I had a fabulous time overseas and I definitely am looking at my life and the world in a different way.  I didn't realize how much I missed my shower and my special soap AND my bed AND my closet AND my books ANd my paintbrushes AND my desk AND everything else back home...YEAH FOR BEING HOME.  I just started a blog so you can check it at www.kyjafo.blogspot.com

Partay!

So I have officially turned 21! It is the greatest age. To celebrate Conor (that's right we are still together) and I took a trip to Cabo for a week. Most of it I don't remember but I do know that I learned a few things. Hard liquor makes for an angry drunk and beer is easier to handle. After my introduction to drinking "a la CABO STYLE" Conor and I have become alcohol coneseurs and spend most weekends making mixers in the "con cave."

After 4 years of dating, Conor and I decided that instead of getting married, we should adopt. We are the proud parents of two young lovebirds named Peach & Mango. They are yellow peach faced lovebirds. I have some advice to all married ones out there, before having kids get a pair of lovebirds. If you can't take care of lovebirds you definitely shouldn't have kids! They are a handful.

As for the rest of life, which doesn't leave much, I am attending the U o' U and will be graduating in Spring next year! I will have my BA in Anthropology in which I plan to study some remote village in Australia, write a book, and become a millionaire. Well that's what I would do if I liked to camp and didn't mind bugs or weird food. So why Anthropology? Well didn't want to be a teacher, art history lacked something, and I loved to learn about weird things people do. So voila, I am an anthropologist.

So thanks for inviting me to this fabulous blog especially since I never really knew y'all in highschool. It's great to see where you all are and bon chance with the rest!

A Bit of a Rant and Then an Update

So the last post before this is in February, lots of things must have changed for everyone. Riley got home, Curtis got home yesterday. Lots of people are engaged! except most of those people are not Olympus Friends... Hilary Nenow is getting married April 30th. We are way excited for her. Shanna is engaged and getting married June 12th, Melissa Cardenas is getting married the 14th, two days later. And yet the postings seemed to have stopped. I understand being busy, I understand that more than I'd like to, but sometimes its nice to take a nice break out of your month and just write a post about whats going on, it doesn't have to be life altering, maybe just something like:

I got a new job, I'm taking classes this summer, I'm really excited for this one specifically, also I just want to be done with this one already. I am just dating around, just chilling, seriously dating, etc... I moved, I need help moving, I want to move. I saw this movie, it was really good see it, or it sucked don't see it, or who cares it was a movie. Has anyone heard from so and so? How are they, and why aren't they cool enough to be part of the blog...

Ok, so a little bit ranty, but I know lots of things have changed in my life and I imagine the seas of change are not just rocking my boat, therefore, people have news and it should be shared, agreed?

So my update, we got a car back in October its a Hyundai Elantra '04, It has pretty rims, however the roads have been so bad because people just keep salting them, it is ruining my tires and taken out one of my rims. The government should replace them, but they won't....

No kids, we see lots of kids all the time, but we just aren't ready for them, after all, I'm 21.

I chopped off my hair, Kapri cut it after Riley's open house for his homecoming that Riley did a really good job speaking at. Back to my hair, it is 2 1/2 inches long and its adorable, I may never grow my hair out ever again.

Ryan is working on a 2 minute claymation project, it has claimed both of our lives(mostly just his)...but it is super awesome, its a sci fi spoof, specifically about the original star trek, star wars and even Lost in Space. The festivals that get me through summer semester are just around the corner.. some of those including : The Living Traditions Festival, The Art Festival, The Jazz Festival, The Greek Festival and The Italian Festival, all of which are incredibly amazing and only two cost money to get into.

Life is good, and I am happy, the End of the semester is 2 weeks away, one Final taken today, 3 papers to write and I'm done for TWO WEEKS! and then back to the grind, but according to my incredibly OCD calculations I have 5 semesters after this one! and then grad school....

On the up and up, I'm being considered for another job, and will basically go over to it once the dreaded remodel is finally finish (according to my calculations that will be 1 1/2 years, I may very well be graduated by then....but its still nice to be considered.

We really are enjoying living in the University Student Apartments, they fulfill what we need, its a great location, and the cost is super cheap. We are thinking of having an Ultimate Football game before next semester, any takers?

I'M HOME!

Well after a week and a half of travelling through 5 countries and then flying and having layovers for 24 hours I finally made it home. The jet lag is gone and now I get to start looking for a job and catching up with old friends. Just as an FYI I'm having a little shin dig at my place this Saturday. Basically I'll be home all day long so any time you want to come over is fine but I'm warning you the chocolate is on a first come first serve basis only.

It's great to be back. I love America!

Coming home soon!

First off, did I add that music? Pretty sure I didn't mean to if I did but we have some cool German music on the page now.

Any way, I'M COMING HOME IN THREE WEEKS!

In case you couldn't tell I'm super excited about it. In a little less than two weeks BreAnne is coming out here with my parents and we're going to rent a car to drive from northern Germany (where I am) down south to Luxemburg, then up to Belgium and the Netherlands. We're going to hop a short plane ride to England and spend two days in London then two more days in the country side before we come home. I'm so excited for it all. I'll put up some pictures and things when I get home.

FYI Party at my house on February 23. Ok, so more like an open house. I'll be home all day probably catching up on all the movies I've missed in 2007 so if you want to stop by and say hello and catch a flick feel free, chocolate will be provided.

Home/Job Hunting

Wow... I never realized how much actually went into buying a home for the first time. It is crazy how much needs to be done in order to get one. Freddy and i are looking around for homes well more like townhomes so that we can get out of his moms basement. :) I mean not that i dont love living with her or anything... but i think its time for us to have our own place. That in turn means i need a more stable job... well kinda more stable i will continue being a dental assistant but that is only 3 days a week and that just wont pay the bills. I need to quit my other job and find a new one. I hate finding new jobs it is such a pain in the butt. Seriously. But anyways thats my life as of now. :) its fantastic PLUS MAREN COMES HOME SO FREAKIN SOON!!!! :) YAY MAREN!!!!! :)

Rockin' the Futon

After a quick talk with Angie this morning via the computer-interwebs I stepped out into the remarkably warm streets and headed into the downest of towns to meet my girlfriend.  We swung into Bed, Bath & Beyond, bought some stuff for her older sister's birthday and of course a little something for myself (the apartment is still quite bare since the move).  Catching the train home I sat there and thought about the e-mail I had missed or ignored or whatever.  Wondering precisely where it went I dug into my inbox when I found a little something else by her that I'd missed (but much more recently).  That e-mail was an invitation to join a blog.  This blog.  So now I'm going to write something.

So, here's a brief introduction of precisely what's happened to me since we left high school, just so everyone is on the same page....

Firstly, I spent the first summer after not graduating in Salt Lake City working and hanging out with my then-girlfriend.  When I was about to move to Hawaii (literally within days) she convinced me to move to Utah Valley with her and go to school at Utah Valley State.  I spent two semesters down there (about nine months) hangin out.  I hated Utah Valley and moved back to Salt Lake City for six months while I worked and ignored school.  In November of 2006 I went on vacation to Hawaii and failed to return to Utah.  Once I'd quit my job over the phone I got a terrible job with Jamba Juice and spent the next months doing that before quitting out of frustration.  Needing a job I went to the local Apple Store and applied.  That worked out well.  Very well.  So well, in fact, that they moved me to New York in November of 2007 and I now live in New York and work at the new flagship store on West 14th Street (9th Ave).

So, that's the very brief version of where I've been, I'll see if I can't post here occasionally and keep you up to date with where I am.

Till then,
-Zak

What Up

Well i figured i'd write i really have nothing intersting to say though. Huh for those of you who dont know I am dating Tyler Fredrickson. And one day we plan on getting married. Although we did make a rule recently that we have to have a dog before we can get married! I thought it was a great rule!! :) but that means we also have to have a house or something like that where we can keep a rather large dog because Freddy hates little dogs. I'm kinda bummed i haven't even seen Caitlin :( its very sad i'm a horrible friend sorry guys. Anyways I work two jobs right now i am a dental assistant M, T, W and the TH, F, S, Su I work at Discovery Gateaway and I am also coaching my little brothers Jr. Jazz basketball team tuesday and thursday nights and saturdays. So i stay pretty busy. I also play basketball twice a week on Wed. and Sat. Well yeah thats my life! Pretty much i work and stay busy so i dont get int trouble. :)

Amanda's First

Yes, I finally joined!
Um... 'kay. So I still attend SLCC, because it's cheap and has the program I am currently enrolled in. I am in the Interpreter Training Program to become an American Sign Language interpreter. Though I am seriously considering changing majors or taking an extended break from school (maybe I'll go on a mission during that time). I'm really sick of school at the moment.
This semester I am an official night schooler because I had to do a complete rework of my schedule last minute and that's just happened to work. I currently am looking for a good day job/T,Th,F,S job.
I "Dear John"ed Matthew Allred about a year ago and have dated several fabulous people since (and a few not so fabulous people have asked me out).
I need a life!

Short Sum Up

Howdy all,
I haven't posted for a while so I decided to do a quick update on everything I can currently think should be public knowledge.
I'm starting school up again and I am uber excited, 3 engl classes! World Masterpieces II, Renaissance Lit, and Childrens Lit. It should be great! and then after next semester I should only have a year and a half! This is also the corresponding time that I will work in the dull mundane grey of office life! After that I would like to apply for grad school but we will see, maybe I can get a job in Childrens publishing without it, but I highly doubt it.

Ryan has two more years after this one! He really like the Film studies classes and really enjoys the animation classes. Next year he will start working with Maya. As Always he dreams of working for Pixar which would take us up to the Seattle area of Washington.

The holidays are over and we survived all of the events. Classes start next week and I am thrilled after my semester off. Everyone who isn't home, starts getting home, and that is very exciting. Anyone else have anything to update everyone on?
